Police in WA have issued a warning about a potent opiate that they have seized for the first time in tablet form in Perth.
They say tests showed the dangerous substance Acetyl Fentanyl was detected in 180 tablets disguised as “Pez” lollies, which were seized late last month.
The opiate is reportedly several times more potent than heroin and has been linked to dozens of overdose deaths in the US.
Det-Supt Dene Leekong, from the serious and organised crime division, urged anyone who had similar tablets to destroy them.
He said those involved in the illicit drug trade were motivated by profits, not the welfare of their customers.
An investigation into the seized tablets is continuing.
