WA remote housing offer 'inadequate'

The federal government has only offered Western Australia a one-off $60 million payment for remote housing with the 10-year National Partnership Agreement days away from expiring, Housing Minister Peter Tinley says.

He said Victoria, NSW and Tasmania had opted out of negotiating a new agreement but WA couldn't maintain standards at 165 remote indigenous communities without Commonwealth support, and the offer so far was inadequate.

"We've got to have an ongoing partnership here," Mr Tinley told ABC radio on Tuesday.
