WA designers promise swoop to remember
WA's vibrant fashion industry will be celebrated nationally next week when the State's biggest contingent of designers blitz Sydney's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.
Alongside local labels including Dyspnea, Betty Tran, Gypsea, Fella, Zingiber and Ellery, who will open the festival with a standalone presentation on Sunday, One Fell Swoop's Daniel Romanin and Nikolina Ergic are excited to return to the show.
Riding high after winning the WA Designer of the Year gong at last week's WA Fashion Awards, the creative duo will showcase their next spring summer collection - Meridian.
"We've been working towards it for a while," Ergic said. "We haven't shown in Sydney since 2008, so it's been a long time.
"Now we're in our 10th year, we have a really strong collection that we're proud to show."
Though they're quiet about what their fans can expect, Romanin promises the show will be a true reflection of the One Fell Swoop aesthetic.
"I don't want to give too much away but it's us at our most classic," he said.
"It truly is retrospective but not in the sense that it's looking at our past. It's a culmination of all of our years of work, learning and effort."
After a highly publicised presentation at Fashion Week Australia last year, Zhivago's Lydia Tsvetnenko and Lara Kovacevich are ready to take things up a notch with their new range.
"We're really excited," Tsvetnenko said. "It's going to be one of our best shows.
"Things are going really well for us and, not to talk it up too much, but the show is going to be insane."
Tsvetnenko and Kovacevich have a strong international following with many celebrity clients, and showing in Sydney is an important part of their business.
"If you want to align yourself with the big labels in Australia, you have to show there," Kovacevich said. "If you miss a year somebody else will take your spot."
