The WA government has signed a memorandum of understanding with giant Shanghai-based online retail travel company Ctrip in the latest push to boost international tourism to the state.

Premier Mark McGowan, who is in China, said a $700,000 campaign would begin next month, following similar action in June, which resulted in 440 visitors and more than 1900 hotel nights generating $2.2 million in visitor spend.

WA attracted 51,100 Chinese visitors last financial year, with a total of $263 million spent, making China the state's second biggest market for spending and sixth for visitor numbers.
