Gameshow host suffers through embarrassing on air accident

Television is always at its best when things don't go to plan.

But while you're giggling at this unfortunate turn of events, spare a thought for quiz show host Rachel Riley, who had to adopt a stiff upper lip on the UK's Countdown program.

The show asks contestants to choose letters, with which they later make words and score points. They are given the choice between vowels and consonants, which are then drawn at random and displayed on a board.

We assume Riley began to have a sinking feeling in her stomach when the letters S-L-U came out. The classic moment was almost complete when a T followed shortly afterwards.

Giggles rippled through the audience as Riley tried to hurry the show along, even choosing a new letter for the contestant before he had a chance to decide for himself.

As luck would have it, that letter was a Z, leaving a rather un-family-friendly plural on television screens across the UK.

Social media lit up, of course, and Riley was lucky enough to have a very unflattering hashtag attached next to her name for several hours in the aftermath.
