'Be vigilant': Warning after unbelievable rescue of creature trapped under car

A snake catcher in Tasmania has warned motorists to keep a close eye on their vehicles after one driver acquired an extra passenger following a day out at the beach.

Reptile rescuer Chris Daly was called out to a shopping centre in Claremont after a passer-by spotted a tiger snake protruding from a car’s bumper in the car park on Friday.

After a tense stand off lasting nearly two hours, Mr Daly was eventually able to entice the snake out from the car’s chassis in front of stunned shoppers.

Footage of the snake catcher, who also operates a reptile meet and greet, shows him carefully retrieving the snake on his hands and knees, eventually managing to hook the intruder and pull it out to safety.

Mr Daly revealed to Yahoo News the vehicle had been at a beach about 40km away from where the snake was removed and most likely had been brought back from the coast.

“The snake would have got under the car to get out of the 40C heat,” he explained.

Mr Daly said the discovery is a poignant reminder to all motorists visiting areas densely populated with snakes.

“People need to be vigilant, because they can get anywhere,” he said.

It’s not the first time a slithery serpent has made their way inside a car after a horrified Christmas shopper was given a festive fright when spotting a snake hanging out of a bumper last month on the Sunshine Coast.
