Thick Layers of Snow Cover Niigata City

Japan’s Niigata Prefecture received large amounts of snowfall on February 12 and 13, with heavy layers blanketing the capital, Niigata city.

Kyodo News reported that other areas along the Sea of Japan coast were also hit by the blizzard, causing multiple deaths and leaving 1,500 cars stranded in Fukui Prefecture. The Japanese government has declared that it will create a research panel aimed at increasing the effectiveness of snow removal and preventing traffic congestion in the region, Kyodo reported.
