Iowa State University Students Brave Blustery Conditions on Campus

Students at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, braved cold and blustery conditions on Monday, February 5, during their walks to-and-fro on campus. A trained weather spotter reported 5.7 inches of snow fell in West Ames on Monday.

The National Weather Service reported it had been 769 days since central Iowa received more than three inches of snow. The last time the area received more than five inches was on December 28, 2015.

The snowy conditions caused dozens of traffic accidents, resulting in the deaths of seven people, according to The Des Moines Register. One of the crashes involved nearly 50 vehicles on Interstate 35.

The snow stopped at around 5 pm. Another inch of snow could fall across the area on Tuesday afternoon. Credit: Twitter/Kevin Cavallin via Storyful, @Gene5335
