Penguins Compete in Their Own Super Bowl Sunday at Binghamton Zoo

Penguins lead the charge for Binghamton Zoo’s Super Bowl LII preparations when they competed in a “Penguin Bowl” on February 4.

Binghamton Zoo’s African penguins, Lucky, Ronde, Gnat, and Dyre, took to a custom-made penguin-friendly football field to battle it out in a bid to be named champion penguin as part of the zoo’s annual fundraiser.

The zoo broadcast a number of Facebook Live clips showing the penguins playing with Super Bowl-themed toys on a miniature football field. The game lasted just under 30 minutes.

Speaking to local media, Rachel Davenport, the zoo’s public relations coordinator, said, “Penguins also love shiny objects, they love bubbles, anything that is new and exciting they’ll like to chase.” Credit: Facebook/Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park via Storyful
