Ice Cutters Arrive to Clear Ice Jams on Connecticut River

Ice cutters arrived in Haddam, Connecticut, on Tuesday, January 23, to break up ice jams on the Connecticut River that had recently triggered flooding in the area. The cutters arrived several days behind schedule, a news report said.

One of the three ships that were bound for the Connecticut River had been docked over the weekend for mechanical repairs, the news report said.

Ice jams and flooding were expected on the Connecticut River through at least Wednesday. Heavy rain was also forecast for Tuesday.

The previous week, Haddam had issued a local state of emergency due to flooding generated by the ice jams. Credit: US Coast Guard via Storyful
