Two Rescued After Spending Night in Blizzard Conditions on Scottish Mountain

Two ski tourers were rescued from a mountain near Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands on the morning of January 20 after bad weather hampered earlier rescue efforts and forced the pair to wait out blizzard conditions overnight without shelter.

The UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency released this footage showing a helicopter crew hoisting the skiers to safety. The agency said the pair had called Police Scotland the day before, reporting they were stuck at Bidean Nam Bian mountain, but blizzard conditions meant the local Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team couldn’t reach them.

The coastguard found them the next morning, stuck in a precarious position near a steep ledge. They were later transferred to the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
