Residents Told to Seek Shelter as Fire Threatens Campvale and Tomago Homes

The NSW Rural Fire Service issued an emergency warning as a bushfire threatened properties in the Hunter Valley wine region on Sunday, January 14.

At about 3:30 pm, residents living in the Campvale and Tomago areas, north of Newcastle, were told to seek shelter as strong winds pushed the fire north of Newcastle Airport. A day earlier, bushfires had threatened properties near Tomago, but had been brought under control in the evening. Credit: NSW Rural Fire Service via Storyful
