Gay Marriage Advocates Eagerly Anticipate Passing of Same-Sex Marriage Bill

Pro-gay marriage campaigners waited outside Parliament House in Canberra in eager anticipation on final vote on the legalisation to introduce same-sex marriage in Australia, which is expected to pass on December 7.

Same-sex marriage campaigners, some of whom have been fighting for years, were outside federal Parliament dancing and singing ahead the final round of debates in the House of Representatives. If passed, the vote would conclude over a decade of debate, more than 20 failed bills, and a national survey on the issue.

More than 100 MPs had delivered speeches over the past week, many emotional, with most in support of changes to the Marriage Act. Before the vote was to be finalised later on Thursday, the House of Representatives was set to debate a number of proposed conservative amendments that were expected to be voted down, according to BuzzFeed News.
