Riot Police Hold Protesters Back During Monument Protest in Salt Lake City

Riot police were out in force on Monday, December 4, as protesters gathered in the streets of Salt Lake City, Utah, to demonstrate after President Donald Trump announced his plan to shrink two of Utah’s national monuments.

Trump spoke at the Utah Capitol on Monday, where he announced that Bears Ears monument would be shrunk by 1.1 million acres and Grand Staircase-Escalante land by 800,000 acres.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported 10 riot gear officers were dispatched to order the roughly 250 demonstrators from the streets, where they were blocking traffic. After that large group dispersed, a group headed to the Capitol building to chant on the lawn. Credit: Twitter/themarshpit via Storyful
