Fire Devastates Iconic Paris Bookstore

A fire broke out and destroyed much of the historic La Hune bookstore and gallery in Saint-Germain-des-Pres, Paris, on November 16.

La Hune, which was founded in 1949, describes itself on its website as a “literary and cultural center of the 20th century,” having been frequented by André Breton, Jean-Paul Sartre, Picasso, and Max Ernst, among other writers and artists.

The Paris fire service said seven people had been slightly injured, and that 50 firefighters responded to the blaze. Credit: Twitter/Bruno Bensaid via Storyful
