Hurricane Max and Tropical Storm Norma Form Off Mexico's Pacific Coast

Two storms formed close to western Mexico in the Pacific Ocean on Thursday, September 14, the National Hurricane Center reported.

Max was upgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane earlier on Thursday before Norma formed to its north.

Hurricane Max, with sustained wind speeds of 80 mph, was expected to make landfall Thursday just south of Acapulco, bringing heavy rain to Mexico’s Guerrero and Oaxaca states.

Tropical Storm Norma was swirling north toward the Baja California peninsula and its southern resort town of Cabo San Lucas. The NHC expected Norma to strengthen over the following two days and said it could become a hurricane by Friday. Credit: CIRA/RAMMB/NOAA via Storyful
