Naples residents faced gusts of wind topping 140 mph, torrential rain and storm surge of up to six feet as the Category 2 storm made its first landfall on the US mainland. The storm has already brought devastation to the Florida Keys and several Caribbean island nations and was forecast to track north over Tampa and into Georgia and Alabama.
