New Zealand Customs Officers Perform Haka to Celebrate Maori Language Week

New Zealand Customs on September 11 tweeted a video of its officers performing a haka in celebration of the Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, or Māori Language Week.

The theme of the 42th edition of the week was Kia ora te reo Māori, or let the Māori language live. The event was held to revive the Eastern Polynesian language spoken by New Zealand’s indigenous Maori people. The Māori Language Commission’s 2014 survey showed that only 11 percent of Māori adults could communicate fluently in the language. Credit: New Zealand Customs via Storyful
