Typhoon Hato Brings Flooding to Heng Fa Chuen, Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s eastern district of Heng Fa Chuen faced flooding on Wednesday, August 23, as the high tide and winds from Typhoon Hato pushed waves over the sea walls.

Hong Kong Observatory had earlier warned of flooding from the high tide, winds and heavy rain from the worst typhoon to strike the city in five years. The Hong Kong Observatory at 9:10 am issued the number 10 signal – the highest of the city’s eight storm warnings, indicating “hurricane force winds” were possible.

Schools and workplaces were closed and the majority of flights were either suspended or cancelled due to the storm’s 81 mph winds, The Standard reported.
