Admiral Scott Swift Provides Update on USS John S McCain Collision

Admiral Scott Swift held a press conference on August 22 where he updated the media on search and rescue efforts following the USS John S McCain collision.

Swift said some remains had been found in sealed compartments on the ship during searches by divers on August 22. He added that the Malaysian Navy had also discovered “potential remains” and they were working to confirm and identify them.

The USS John S McCain arrived at the Changi Naval Base in Singapore on August 21, after a collision with a merchant vessel in the Strait of Malacca that left 10 missing and five injured.

Swift ordered an investigation of the fleet on August 21. During the August 22 press briefing Swift said, “Right now we are still searching for our 10 missing sailors. That remains our focus.”
