Quebec City Counter Protest Declared Illegal by Police After Violence

Quebec City police declared a counter protest by anti-fascists illegal because of “violence and vandalism” on Sunday, August 20. The counter protest was in response to the right-wing group La Meute’s planned rally.

The anti-fascists set off fireworks and lit dumpers on fire, according to reports. La Meute’s members were cornered in a parking garage. Police said it arrested at least one person.

This video shows police dressed in riot gear moving into the area.

Two members of La Meute were involved in the protest in Charlottesville that turned violent, leading to three people being killed, last weekend, according to news reports. The group said one of the two people had been suspended. Credit: Twitter/Sean Meagher via Storyful
