Adam Harvey Receives Medical Treatment After Being Struck by Stray Bullet in Marawi
An Australian journalist received medical treatment in the Philippine city of Marawi after a stray bullet became lodged in his neck as he reported on a military conflict there on Thursday, June 15.
The ABC confirmed that one of their journalists, Adam Harvey, was hit by a bullet as he reported on a clash between the Filipino army and Islamic State militants. ABC News director Gaven Morris said the reporter was “injured while on assignment in Marawi in the Philippines” and was “currently receiving medical treatment.”
Footage recorded by photojournalist Alan Secretaria Tangcawan shows Harvey holding a bandage to his neck wound and talking to someone on the phone about his injury, before medical staff begin to put his head in a neck brace.
Tangcawan said Harvey had been photographing “the children playing” in the compound when they heard several gunshots.
Harvey had removed his bulletproof vest “so he could squat and take better photos,” Tangcawan told Storyful.
The ABC southeast Asia correspondent , who is based in Jakarta, tweeted that he was “okay” in the aftermath of the shooting and shared an X-ray of his head and neck, in which the bullet can be seen lodged near his vertebrae. Credit: Alan Secretaria Tangcawan via Storyful
