Sea Turtle Tangled in Clay Pot Rescued by Fisherman

A green sea turtle was rescued after it was found tangled in a clay pot in shallow mangroves at Moreton Bay by a Brisbane fisherman.

The footage, published to Facebook on April 23, shows fisherman Daniel Vallis cutting the net from around the turtle’s neck and then dragging the animal slowly towards deeper water.

The Wynnum Herald reported turtle experts said Vallis undoubtedly saved the creature’s life. It is not the first of its species to become trapped by a clay pot. Several have died in recent years.

“This one was the biggest turtle I’d ever seen. I started rubbing my hand on its shell and it lifted its head and turned to look at me. That’s when I knew I had to do something," Vallis told the Herald.
