Car theftA suspected car thief was caught on surveillance video crawling on all fours at a gas station before hopping into someone else's vehicle and driving away.
In the video, which was reported by NBC New York and News 12, the unidentified suspect is seen getting out of the back of a white BMW at a Red Bank, N.J. gas station and slowly inching toward a black sedan, whose owner is seen standing behind the sedan as a station attendant screws the gas tank cap back on the car.
The suspect, after inching from the front to the driver's side of the car, then jumps into the vehicle just before the owner turns and notices what is happening. The owner briefly struggles with the suspected thief before backing away, allowing the suspect to make his getaway, along with the driver of the BMW.
Citing police, NBC reported that the owner backed away from the car because he feared the suspect might have had a weapon. The entire theft happened in under 30 seconds.
The outlets report that police are asking for the public to help identify who might have stolen the vehicle and where they could have driven it.
