Video captures high school students' sweet actions to help elderly man

A group of teenagers has gone viral online after helping an elderly man who they noticed struggling on a 31-degree day.

Four students from William Allen High School, in the US state of Pennsylvania, saw the man “staggering” as he walked down the side of the road last Friday.

The 88-year-old man, named Jim, was overheating and struggling to find his way home, NBC Philadelphia reported.

One of the grade nine students carried Jim’s bag while the others held his arms and kept him steady.

The students phoned emergency services and waited with Jim until ambulances arrived.

In the video, Jim praised the actions of the teens.

“These are angels. These kids from Allentown have really, truly helped me,” he said.

The students said they didn’t anticipate their actions would have such a strong reaction from the community.

"I don't think this was going to be such a big deal, we just did what anyone should do," Jose Cerda, one of the students, said.

The principal of William Allen High School, Shannon Mayfield, applauded the group’s selfless actions, saying it has had a positive impact on the school’s reputation.

“It makes me proud, it makes the community proud. That’s the way to lift people up and that’s what we’re all about,” Mr Mayfield told local news station WFMZ.
