Victorian police custody officer charged

A Victorian police custody officer has been charged with hundreds of counts of allegedly accessing police information without authorisation.

The 55-year-old, from the state's western region, was charged following an internal investigation, Victoria Police say.

His 363 counts of accessing police information without authorisation relate to incidents while he was on duty between February and June 2021.

The officer was summonsed to face court at a later date.

Police custody officers are responsible for overseeing the management of people in Victoria Police custody.
