* 1638 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19, the second highest daily tally of Victoria's current outbreak

* Two deaths: a woman in her 60s from Wyndham and woman in her 70s from Hume

* Death toll from the current outbreak: 70

* Of the latest cases in metropolitan Melbourne:

- 566 in the city's northern suburbs

- 485 in western suburbs

- 351 in southeast suburbs

- 114 in eastern suburbs

* 115 cases in regional Victoria, including:

- 17 in Mitchell Shire

- 16 in Geelong

- 15 in City of Latrobe

- 11 in Baw Baw

- 11 in Greater Shepparton

- 11 in Mount Alexander Shire

- Eight in Ballarat

- Four in Mildura

* Total active cases: 15,074

* A record 77,238 test results were processed on Wednesday


* 36,672 vaccine doses on Wednesday at state-run hubs

* 84.4 per cent of eligible Victorians aged 16 and up have received their first jab, while 55 per cent are double-vaccinated

* Of the about 10,000 cases over the last seven days to Tuesday, 79 per cent were unvaccinated, 15 per cent partially vaccinated and seven per cent fully vaccinated


* 564 people in hospital, 115 of whom are in intensive care, including 74 on a ventilator

* Of those in hospital, 66 per cent are unvaccinated, 27 per cent are partially vaccinated and seven per cent are fully vaccinated


* More than 470, including multiple early learning centres in Melbourne and an Australia Post office in Bundoora
