Victoria is set to collect an estimated $30 million a year by imposing an eight per cent point-of-consumption tax on online betting agencies.

Treasurer Tim Pallas on Monday announced the impost, which will start from January.

The rate of eight per cent is nearly half of South Australia's 15 per cent tax, with other jurisdictions such as WA also considering increasing the duty.
