A truck driver has captured the shocking moment a passenger in the car ahead hung out of the window to try and knock down traffic cones at a construction site.
Jacob Groot was just outside of Geelong on his was to Lara in Victoria about 1.20pm on Friday when he spotted the red P-plater swerving across the road for about a kilometre where there were safety barrier upgrades.
The dashcam footage shows the young woman leaning out to her waist and at one point narrowly avoids smashing her head on the back of a stationary truck.
"If she had of fallen out the window, I would of gone straight over the top of her," Mr Groot told 7 News Online.
The footage shows the woman hitting at least three cones over right in front of construction workers.
One of the cones flew under Mr Groot's truck and he said the blue Ford dramatically slowed down on the highway in order for the woman to reach the cones.
The truck driver said the change in speed almost caused an accident.
"The driver didn't seem to realise. He took off really quick after that."
Mr Groot said the car later turned into a service station where he noticed it had poorly displayed red P-plates on the side.
He handed the footage to Corio police station on Saturday morning.
"Corio police are investigating after receiving footage of a traffic incident in Geelong," a Victoria police spokesperson said.
