The first of four new state-of-the-art Victoria Police aircraft is ready for take off.
Three Leonardo AW139 helicopters and one Beechcraft Super King Air 350ER plane will be based at the Victoria Police Air Wing's Essendon Fields base.
The first of the helicopters was ready for action on Tuesday while the other two and the fixed-wing plane are due in the coming months.
Police Minister Lisa Neville says the new fleet would be a great support to the unit.
"The Air Wing has become very much an integral part of the day to day operations in tackling crime as well as providing a border support and protection to the community," she said.
Air Wing Inspector Craig Shepherd said police were excited by the new additions.
"It enables us to strengthen our community response as incidents are unfolding and provide increased surveillance where required," he said.
