Victim of terrifying Whitsundays shark attack heads home

A mother who was attacked by a tiger shark in the Whitsundays has returned home to her family and friends in Tasmania.

The attack in Cid Harbour last month left Justine Barwick hospitalised with a serious leg wound.

“I just want to go home,” Ms Barwick said. “It’s the first time I’ve been outside.”

The mother-of-two and Hannah Papps, 12, were both bitten at the same location in the space of 24 hours.

While Ms Barwick has flown home, Hannah is still in hospital in a stable condition.

Ms Barwick has made a remarkable recovery from her injuries in hospital.

She is now able to walk reasonable distances unaided, but while she’s leaving hospital it’s not the end of her recovery.

That’s set to continue with the support of friends and family in Tasmania.
