Brave salon owner fights back against thieves
A brave salon owner in Melbourne has fought back against a group of thieves who smashed their way into his business early on Thursday morning.
He chased them out of the salon with a metal bollard - and then attacked their getaway car.
Using a large rock and a shovel, the masked bandits brought down the salon's front doors, then snatched hairdryers and straighteners from the shelves.
But their early morning raid was interrupted when Sean Nevo appeared and confronted them.
"So, he kind of took a swing at me and he hit my face and I tried to grab him, a quick scuffle and he took off," Mr Nevo said.
He chased them out and hit their car with the metal bollard, which shattered the back windscreen.
"I just tried to get as close as possible to the car to get the registration, but I wasn't thinking," Mr Nevo said.
The young father was trying to protect his family. He lives above the salon with his wife and two-year-old daughter.
He has owned the business for the past 12 years but has been on edge since an attempted break-in six weeks ago.
"We had the feeling that they were going to come back and steal what they couldn't get last time," Mr Nevo said.
An hour later in Rowville the thieves used the white Mitsubishi station wagon to drive into a second salon, smashing through the front doors to get inside.

A number of items were taken and loaded into the car through the smashed back windscreen.
The station wagon was later found on fire in Wheelers Hill and police have now arrested three men over the break-ins.
The trio, aged between 24 and 38, have been charged with burglary and theft-related offences, with one copping an extra charge for assault-related offences.
