More cockatoos die in northeast Vic town

Another 50 sulphur-crested cockatoos have been found dead or ill in Victoria, as authorities continue to investigate the unusual circumstances linked to the death of more than 100 birds.

About 100 birds were found dead by wildlife officers near the Tatong township on January 25 and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning estimates another 50 have since died or been injured.

A number of the birds - from a protected species - have undergone toxicology testing to determine their cause of death, but results are yet to be determined.
