Vic road reopened after asbestos scare

A major Melbourne highway has been reopened after emergency crews spent hours clearing up hazardous asbestos that was blown onto the road by wild winds.

Emergency services rushed to close the Nepean Highway, south of Frankston, after asbestos sheeting, believed to be from a tin shed, drifted onto the road about 9am on Wednesday.

Four hours later, the Country Fire Authority announced the material had been removed and the road reopened, with a public safety alert no longer in place.
