Deluge boosts Vic water storage levels

Victoria's three-day soaking, when an entire summer's worth of rain fell in the space of just 72 hours, has added 16.3 billion litres of water to Melbourne's catchments.

More than 70 properties were flooded after storms hit the state on Friday, with some Melbourne suburbs copping almost 145mm up to Sunday and parts of the state receiving more than 220mm.

This bumped up the city's water storage levels by 0.9 per cent or 16.3 billion litres in the week to Thursday, Melbourne Water says.
