WATCH: Vic police help man stage proposal after pulling him over for 'drink driving'

It’s not often that seeing the red and blue lights flashing in your rearview mirror ends well after a few beers, but for one nervous boyfriend, a random breath test returned exactly the result he was hoping for.

Adam Advincula had just picked up his girlfriend of six-and-a-half-years to take their dogs for a walk along a Warnambool beach on Sunday afternoon.

As far as Jarrah Cootee knew, Adam had spent the last couple of hours at his mate’s soccer presentations drinking a few beers.

The 27-year-old had actually been orchestrating an elaborate proposal plan with a little help from a Victorian Police officer.

“The ring came two weeks early, I was unprepared as anything,” Adam told Yahoo7.

Calling in a few favours, the apprentice carpenter dropped off the wedding ring and a new GoPro with local cop and friend, Dave.

“I picked her up and she was in her scraggy clothes and I thought aww s***, I can’t ask her to get into nicer clothes,” he laughed.

With the dogs secured in the canopy of Adam’s ute, the pair were making their way up to Thunder Point when Dave flagged them down.

“I said to Jarrah: ‘I’ve had four mid strength beers (in 45 minutes), do you think I’ll be over?’ - she wasn't impressed."

“He (Dave) followed us for a couple of minutes and she was screaming at me to pull up, but I wanted to get up there(to Thunder Point).”

“Dave walked up to me and said 'G’day'… my heart was just going absolutely insane.”

Blowing into the breath tester that wasn’t even switched on, Adam remarkably managed to return a positive reading… of sorts.

“Dave handed me the ring so she couldn’t see and I got down on one knee behind the car while he asked her to step out,” Adam recalled.

“It took her about two second to realise what was going on and then she just lost it.”

The 24-year-old bride-to-be can be seen falling over in disbelief followed by a series of hysterical screams before Adam placed the ring on her finger.

With his father suffering from cancer, Adam said sharing the news with his family was the part he was most excited about.

Surrounded by family later that night, Adam did just that, flipping open his laptop before telling everyone he had video of him “being pulled over by the cops”.

“They were all sh*****g themselves, they thought I was going to jail," Adam said.

“My sister and her husband figured out what was going on first when they saw me get down on one knee… but my grandma thought I was pleading not to be arrested.

“When they all realised, they just started going insane.”

After a nerve-wracking Sunday afternoon, Adam said he called his supervisor to let him know he wouldn’t be coming in on Monday.
