However his trailer carries on hurtling in a straight line and slams into the stationary vehicle carrying temporary fencing, trapping the driver behind the wheel after being shunted into another truck ahead.

The dashcam footage, obtained exclusively by 7 News, shows another car ahead of the truck swerve to the right at the last instant to avoid the congested lane on the 100km/h highway.

Remarkably the trapped driver managed to avoid serious injury and after a short stay in hospital, has since returned home.

The truckie who slammed into the back of his vehicle was a 37-year-old male from Corio and is set to face charges for the crash, according to police.

The driver who filmed the collision also claims he was almost hit by a B-double behind him. The driver of the B-double had to swerve to avoid an even bigger pile-up.
