WATCH: ‘Irresponsible stunt’ injures Victorian teen who fails quarry landing
Footage has surfaced of a Victorian teen who became injured when he attempted to jump into a quarry but failed the landing.
The 15-year-old boy was trying to leap from a roof into a lake at Ferntree Gully, south east of Melbourne, on Sunday.
Seven News has obtained mobile phone footage of the incident that left the youth with a fractured pelvis, and deep cuts and grazes.
As he jumped over the edge, he smacked into a handrail on the decking below, while horrified friends watched.
Ambulance officers stabilised him at the scene before taking him to hospital for further treatment.
The teen remains in hospital, in a stable condition.
His mother told Seven News on Monday her son made a “stupid, teenage mistake”, and that he agreed it was an irresponsible stunt.
Knox City Council has confirmed swimming is banned at the lake.
