Melbourne road opens after panels secured

The danger posed by two aluminium panels dangling from a building in the Melbourne CBD has been averted.

A wind gust caught a crane's cables as it was moving a two-metre panel on the corner of Franklin and Elizabeth Streets shortly after 6pm on Thursday.

The panel fell to the ground after striking the side of the building and dislodging two other panels.

The road was closed while the Metropolitan Fire Brigade's high angle rescue team abseiled down the side of the building and removed the two dangling panels late in the night.

No one was injured and the road has reopened to traffic and pedestrians.
