Vegan student has raw horse heart thrown at her as she slept in Melbourne university housing

A Melbourne university student has claimed an "unstable" man climbed through her dorm window to throw raw meat at her and left a horse's heart outside her door because she is a vegan.

Monash law and global studies student Melis Layik said she has been left "scared" after a string of attacks in her residential housing at Mannix College over the past few months.

The 18-year-old told Yahoo7 the same student has thrown livers and offal at her while she slept and smeared chicken mince on her door.

"It's been very scary," Ms Layik said. "Someone that's willing to do that is quite unstable."

Ms Layik said the harassment started when the other student sent her a series of "disparaging messages," including calling her a "stupid vegan."

"One day he smeared meat all over my door and then threw offal and meat offcuts at me at 3am," she said.

The first-year student said she has no connection to the man at the 300-person college and is confused about why she has been targeted.

"I think he's using me being vegan as a reason to hate on me," she said.

Ms Layik said she complained to the university, but claimed nothing has been done.

"They said they spoke to him and he agreed not to do it again," she said.

"But he wasn't made to apologise."

In a statement to Yahoo7, a spokesperson for Mannix College said there are "strict conduct policies and standards and cannot comment on the matter due to privacy."

A representative for Monash University said it "takes the welfare of all its students seriously."

"Mannix College residents who are students of Monash University have full access to the range of university support services, including the Safer Community unit," the statement said.
