Sausage dogs race to finish line in Melbourne's adorable nod to Oktoberfest

Short dog legs raced with fury and fanfare as part of Melbourne’s salute to the annual German celebration of Oktoberfest.

The sausage dogs made a mad dash down the 15-metre racetrack in the bid for the top prize during the third annual event that draws swarms of festival and dog lovers alike.

Saturday’s spectacle was part of local celebrations marking the 207th anniversary of Oktoberfest in Germany.

The Annual Dachshund Race raised funds for Dachshund Rescue Australia.

Hophaus has previously raised more than $6200 to help rescue and privately rehome dachshunds across Australia over the past two years, with more than 150 pups having taken part in the race.

Pampered pooches also strutted their stuff down the “dogwalk” as part of the dogged Costume Parade.

The Hophaus Bavarian Bier Bar Grill has transformed a small part of the Victorian capital city to Munich with a five-week program of festivities and events running until October 22.
