Taxi dispatched to pick up woman in pain instead of ambulance

A woman in pain was forced to take a taxi to hospital after one was dispatched instead of an ambulance.

Kasey Haldane called Triple 0 after starting to experience "severe" pain in her stomach and was sent a taxi due to an ambulance backlog.

Ms Haldane was driven 60 kilometres to a Ballarat hospital, where doctors discovered she was suffering from a kidney infection.

"It wasn't critical, I didn't feel her life was threatened at all, but it would have been better if she was in an ambulance with medical support," taxi driver Stephen Smith said.

Ms Haldane's father-in-law said he believes they sent a cab because she wasn't having a "stroke or heart attack."
