Family grieves for 70-year-old Kew grandmother killed by partner in tragic murder suicide

A Melbourne grandmother murdered by her partner in their luxury home has been remembered as a beautiful woman who loved her family passionately.

The 70-year-old's body was found in the Kew house she shared with the man who killed her, before taking his own life.

Marilyn Burdon's family and relatives flocked to her home this morning - the scene of an apparent murder suicide.

Her children were devastated to learn she'd been killed by her partner, who then took his own life.

Her body, and that of her 69-year-old partner, were found yesterday in separate rooms of the home they shared in Melbourne's east.

Family from both sides flocked to the property, but it was Ms Burdon's friends and relatives who today suffered a second blow, learning from detectives her life had been taken by the man she loved.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our mother in the company of a person who she considered a friend,” they family said in a statement.

"She was a beautiful mother and grandmother who loved her family passionately. She enjoyed all manner of pursuits and interests and always liked to have fun," they said.

Neighbours say she and her partner were friendly, but kept to themselves.

Homicide detectives are no longer investigating the deaths, confirming it was a tragic murder suicide.

It's still unclear how the pair died, as officers have refused to comment on reports a gun was found at the scene.
