'Psychotic' neighbour accused of murdering fitness trainer could avoid jail: court

A woman who is accused of stabbing a Sunbury fitness trainer to death over a car park dispute may escape jail because she was psychotic.

Eva Whitecross is charged with stabbing her neighbour Rachel Tyquin 19 times after she became infuriated by her personal training clients who would often park in front of her home.

The court heard that Whitecross would regularly yell abuse at Ms Tyquin, calling her words like “slut” and “whore” over the 10-year dispute.

In 2012 the 44-year-old had become so afraid of Whitecross she took out an intervention order but it was a chance meeting during a morning walk in April 2016 when it's alleged the young mother was stabbed 19 times.

It's claimed Whitecross left Ms Tyquin dying on a footpath before she returned home, had a shower and coffee and then handed herself over to police.

A doctor called to give evidence about Whitecross' health told the court she was psychotic at the time of the attack.

She added Whitecross had become paranoid and believed she was the subject of a conspiracy.

A decision on Whitecross's mental health will be handed down on Friday.
