'I’m going to kill you': Melbourne woman films terrifying road-rage attack

A Melbourne woman has told of a terrifying road-rage attack, targeted by a man who she claimed swore abuse at her and kicked and punched her car, on her way to work.

Mobile phone footage captures some of the violent outburst, which left the woman shaking on her commute on Friday morning.

Tammi Bourke said the motorist driving a white Mitsubishi Magna cut her off near St Kilda Road, South Melbourne, so she put her arms in the air in response.

She said she was terrified, and pulled over at a red right near Kings Way. That’s where the man approached her, so Ms Bourke pulled out her mobile phone to record the incident.

He got out of his car and marched over to her vehicle, dishing out a tirade of abuse while trying to attack her as she sat in the driver’s seat, the shaken woman said.

“He was waiting for me,” she said of the man she called “an absolute nutcase”.

“He ran over to the door, ripped the door open. Fist to my face ‘put your effing phone away’,” she recounted to 3AW on the morning of the incident.

“He held a fist to my face; ‘Effing this, effing that. Get out of the car, I’m going to kill you’.”

“He [hit] my window screen with his fist, I thought he was going to smash it, he hit it that hard.”

Ms Bourke said the driver even assaulted an onlooker who was also recording the violence with his mobile phone.

“He got out of his car in St Kilda Road and started trying to hit this man, ‘Put your effing phone away!’” she recalled.

She said even though she is a second-dan black belt, the incident left her the most terrified she has ever been in her life.

“A woman came and held my hand. She had to hold it with two hands because I was shaking so much,” Ms Bourke said.

“This is me travelling to work. Is this what we are subject to now, on my way to work?” she asked.

Ms Bourke said she was shocked further at the man’s behavior because he had a child in the back seat with him at the time, who she said would have been about two years old.

She was grateful for the many people who stopped to help her, and for the police who she said were helpful in taking her statement and tracking down his registration details.

Victoria Police told 7 News they were called to an incident this morning on St Kilda Road about 9:15am.

"A male driver verbally abused and threatened a female motorist. The male driver exited his vehicle on four different occasions," a spokesperson said.

"Police have reviewed footage of the incident and have identified a person who may be able to assist with their enquiries. The investigation is ongoing."
