Victorian ice addict jailed for six years after viciously bashing two grandmothers
An ice addict who bashed two grandmothers on a four-day crime spree has been jailed for up to six years.
Police initially thought a man was behind the brutal attacks, but Tammy Phillips, from Shepparton, has admitted it was her.
One year on from her arrest in Kerang, Phillips has fronted court, pleading guilty to all 10 charges against her.
The 34-year-old admitted to beating 87-year-old grandmother Mavis Dillon as she loaded her walking frame into her car at St Albans last year.
The court was told Phillips hit her in the head and shoved her to the ground before ripping keys from around her neck and stealing her car.
"I've never been frightened in my life, I've been through lots of things and I've survived, but this one I'm going to live it for a while yet," Mavis Dillon said.
Phillips went on to attack and rob a second elderly woman, threatening her with a fake gun in front of her granddaughter.
The court heard that both victims were hospitalised and have since lost their independence due to anxiety and depression.
On sentencing the judge told the court the 34-year-old woman was illiterate and suffers an intellectual disability along with a severe personality disorder, but said those factors could not excuse her serious offending.
"You broke the face bone of an 87-year-old lady and another lady is living in a mental asylum because of what you did to her," County Court judge Elizabeth Gaynor said.
The judge acknowledged Phillips' difficult life, telling the court her lack of education and past 21 years of prostitution, drug and alcohol addiction were taken into account on sentencing.
However, the judge said the woman was a danger to the community, sentencing her to a maximum of six years in jail.
