Driver ‘speeding, high on drugs’ when Melbourne dad was killed
Court documents have revealed a driver was allegedly high on ice and cannabis when she slammed into a car on the Western Ring Road, killing father of three Alan Dunlop.
Tara Brennan was speeding and driving erratically in the lead-up to the crash.
Police have said in the hours after the collision, test results revealed the 28-year-old had ice and cannabis in her system.
As well as drug possession, Brennan is facing 11 charges, the most serious of which is culpable driving causing death.
Alan Dunlop was not feeling well and had stopped in the emergency lane of the Western Ring Road in May last year.
That's when Brennan's car slammed into the vehicle he was travelling in, leaving it virtually unrecognisable.
Mr Dunlop's family members were in court, some struggling to hold back tears as evidence was given by half a dozen motorists.
"The car passed us at a terrible speed," witness Carol Phelps said.
"We went round the bend and saw the crash."
It is alleged that Brennan was looking down at her lap, drifting in and out of traffic and possibly travelling at up to 130km/h.
A driver travelling behind Brennan had his dashcam on and recorded the 15 minutes leading up to the crash.
The footage will now be used by police in their case against Brennan.
The hearing will continue on Thursday when a detective will give his evidence.
