Police praise man for stopping Melbourne carjacking

A brave bystander is being hailed a hero for saving a man during what could have been a carjacking in Melbourne’s southeast.

The man was in a shopping centre car park when two men attacked him and tried to steal his Mercedes in broad daylight.

But another man came to the rescue, after the victim’s keys and wallet were stolen, and prevented the pair from getting away in the car.

A witness said the victim was “really bloody all over” the face and needed help from paramedics and security.

“The actions of the person who came forward are quite commendable because he’s only a small chap,” detective senior constable Ian Campbell said.
