Neighbourhood tree-son! Family's CCTV catches man next door cutting down their tree
A Victorian man has called his neighbour "disgusting" after catching him on camera appearing to have entered his backyard to hack down his trees without permission.
Andrew Malley told 7 News his wife and kids came home to their home at Highton, in Geelong's south west, on Tuesday to find "a canopy of trees" chopped down in a pile, in their backyard.
All that's left of the family's well-established peppercorn trees, which took years to grow, were stumps, the man said.
Mr Malley said he reviewed his CCTV footage to find his neighbour had used a ladder to climb over the fence to chop down trees in his backyard with a chainsaw about 1.15pm.
He said footage shows his neighbour ringing the doorbell, then when he realised nobody was home he made his way over the fence to destroy the trees.
"It was disgusting that someone, without consulting you on these matters, would have such a sense of entitlement to come on to your property and do that," he told 7 News today.
"I'd say he's come on to cut them down to improve his view of Queen's Park."
A police investigation is underway.
