'This eerie face appeared': Melbourne family spooked by 'ghost' resembling late grandmother days after funeral

A Melbourne family was left spooked after a photo was snapped, appearing to show a ghost-like face peering into their lounge room they say resembles their grandmother days after her death.

Dayna Lynch was hoping to take a candid picture of her dad Paul curled up with his partner Safiye Alev as they watched TV, but got more than she bargained for.

The picture taken by the 18-year-old Frankston girl appears to show a sideways floating head poking out from a door behind the couple.

Dayna told 7 News Online she was convinced the photo was "evidence" of "a real life legitimate ghost".

“I hoped to catch a cute sentimental photo without them knowing," she said.

"Instead, the flash went off and this eerie face appeared behind it. Upon inspection I realised that someone was floating sideways behind the door. It is not a reflection."

Moments after taking the picture with her iPhone, Dayna zoomed in to find the haunting image. She and her family members got their phones out to try and catch the ghostly image in subsequent pictures, but it never re-appeared.

"We tried to take another one but got absolutely nothing. It was a one-off."

She said she was spooked, frightened and terrified, along with her dad and his partner, her brother, and stepsister.

“As you can see can see the lights are blurred and you can’t see [the couple] that well in the frosted glass. You can’t see through the glass either. Which confuses me because the ghost appears to be behind the door. No one is standing behind it."

The young woman said the door was made of thick frosted glass, similar to what bathroom windows were made from. So if someone was standing behind the door, they wouldn't be visible on the other side, she said.

The picture was taken just days after Safiye returned home from attending her elderly grandmother Fatima's funeral in Turkey. Dayna said her dad's partner believes the alleged presence bares a striking resemblance to the woman she was very close to and "basically raised her".

She said it looked like her grandmother when she was young - even her eyebrows were the same.

"This is nene - it has to be her," Safiye told her at the time.

The woman told Dayna she felt her late grandmother was around her all day when the picture was taken.

"She told us she felt a presence for three weeks, and felt when it left her," the teen recounted.

While Dayna admitted she was open to the idea of the paranormal, her family members were initially not so convinced and tried to find a rational explanation for what appeared in the photo.

"No one else in that room believed in ghosts. They thought someone was standing there."

But even after running it through photo enhancing software, she found no logical conclusion for the ghostly head.

Dayna said her family encountered a number of unexplained activities in various homes they have lived in for years, including curtains moving and doors shutting with no wind, lights flickering, hearing knocking on doors and windows, and incidental hair pulling.

The family even called the police once, after all the windows of their home were knocked on at the same time. But when they came to investigate not a single fingerprint was found.
